Takum

Takum local government area is found in Taraba state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Takum. The LGA is bordered by the Ussa and Donga LGAs and by parts of the Republic of Cameroon. The towns and villages that constitute Takum LGA include Jenuwa, Bete, Roga, Chanchanji, Kwambai, Bika, Kashimbila, and Dutse. The current estimated population of Takum LGA is put at 197,510 inhabitants with the area occupied by members of diverse ethnic affiliations which include the Jukun, Kuteb, and Chamba. The Jukun language is one of the languages spoken in Takum LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced in the area. Festivals celebrated in Takum LGA include the Fure Jukun festival.

Takum LGA sits on a total area of 2,503 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The LGA has substantial forest reserves and has an estimated total precipitation of 1350 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF TAKUM

Trade is an important feature in the economy of Takum LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Takum Central market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. The LGA is also a hub for agricultural practices with a variety of crops cultivated in the LGA while a number of domestic animals are also reared in the area. Other important economic activities of the people of Takum LGA include lumbering, hunting, and crafts making.
