About Ussa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ussa local government area is situated in Taraba state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Lissan and the LGA shares an international boundary with the Republic of Cameroon. Towns and villages that make up Ussa LGA include Kpambo Puri, Rufu, Acha, Fikyu, Lumbu, Lissam, Liji, Lissam sambo, and Jatau. The current estimated population of Ussa LGA is put at 196,553 inhabitants with the area primarily occupied by members of the Kuteb ethnic affiliation. The Kuteb language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are extensively practiced in the area. Important festivals held in Ussa LGA include the Iki and Kuchechep festivals while the notable landmarks in the area include the Ussa General Hospital.


GEOGRAPHY OF USSA

Ussa LGA occupies a total area of 1495 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 31 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies off the banks of the Donga River and has an estimated total rainfall of 1450 mm per annum.


ECONOMY OF USSA

Ussa LGA has agriculture as the major occupation of its dwellers with crops such as yam, sorghum, millet, onions and rice grown in the LGA. Trade also flourishes in the LGA with the area hosting several markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities that take place in Ussa LGA include animal rearing, hunting, food processing, and fishing.

Ussa LGA was created in the year 1996.
