Kano Municipal local government area is one of the forty-four local government areas found in Kano state, North-west Nigeria. The headquarters of Kano Municipal LGA are in the town of Kofar kudu with the LGA made up of a number of districts and wards such as the Emir Palace road, Dn’ Agundi, Gandun, Albasa, Jakara, Kankarofi, and Kofar kudu. The estimated population of Kano Municipal LGA is put at 274,593 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s population made up of members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in Kano Municipal LGA while the religion of Islam is commonly practiced in the area. The Emir of Kano is the paramount traditional ruler in Kano Municipal while popular landmarks in the area include the imposing palace of the Emir of Kano.
Kano municipal LGA covers a total area of 17 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the dry seasons in the LGA often characterized by very hot and humid temperatures.
Kano Municipal LGA is a hub for trade with the area hosting a number of markets such as the popular Kantin Kwari market which is the biggest textile market in the whole of Africa. Kano Municipal LGA is an urban and cosmopolitan society and therefore hosts a number of hotels, banks, government and private institutions, restaurants and relaxation spots.
