Shanono local government area is one of the 44 LGAs situated in Kano state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Shanono and the area is constituted by a number of towns and villages such as Farin Ruwa, Godawa, Bakwami, Shanono, Alajawa, Danja, Fagawa, and Gangare. The current estimated population of Shanono LGA is put at 189,633 inhabitants with the area primarily inhabited by members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area.
Shanono LGA occupies a total area of 697 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The LGA has an average humidity level of 28 percent while the average wind speed in the area is put at 10 km/h.
Farming is the major economic activity in Shanono LGA and with a large percentage of the area’s inhabitants involved in the cultivation of crops such as rice, beans, sorghum, soybeans, guineacorn, onions, and groundnut. A number of domestic animals such as cows, goats, and rams are also reared and sold in the LGA. Other important economic activities engaged in by residents of Shanono LGA include trade and crafts making.
