Takai local government area is one of the fourty-four LGAs found in Kano state, North-west geopolitical division of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Takai and the area is made up of several towns and villages which include Gamawa, Fajewa, Kachako, Toto, Zuga, Tumfusha, Langwami, and Kayarda. The estimated population of Takai LGA is put at 264,899 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in Takai LGA while the religion of Islam is extensively practiced in the area. Takai LGA occupies a total area of 598 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the dry seasons in the area usually lasting for longer periods than the rainy seasons.
Farming is a key economic activity in Takai LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as rice, groundnut, millet, and sorghum. A variety of animals such as cows, goats and sheep are also reared and sold in the LGA. Other important economic activities indulged in by the people of Takai LGA include trade, food processing, and pottery.
