Kunchi

Kunchi local government area is in Kano state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Kunchi. Towns and villages that make up Kunchi LGA include Baje, Dankwai, Kuku, Yandadi, Tofawa, Magawata, Kunchi, and Birkin. The estimated population of Kunchi LGA is put at 199,233 inhabitants with the area’s major inhabitants being members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa and Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in Kunchi LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area.  Notable landmarks in Kunchi LGA include the College of Basic Science, Kunchi.

Kunchi LGA occupies a total area of 671 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level in the area is put at 24 percent while the total precipitation in the LGA is estimated at 1200 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF KUNCHI

Kunchi LGA has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Mpape market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. The area also has a rich agricultural heritage with the LGA known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as rice, millet, tomatoes, sorghum and beans. Other important economic activities that take place in Kunchi LGA include cattle rearing, pottery, and leather works.
