Karaye

Karaye local government area is domiciled in Kano state, North-west Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Karaye. Towns and villages that make up Karaye LGA include Karaye, Daurawa, Saunagari, Alhazawa, Jajaye, Citama, Kyari, and Tofa. The estimated population of Karaye LGA is put at 240,632 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa and Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in Karaye LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Karaye LGA include the Challawa gorge dam in Karaye town and the Kano state NYSC permanent Orientation camp.

Karaye LGA is also popular for the rearing and sales of a number of domestic animals such as cows, horses, and goats. Farming is also an important feature of Karaye LGA with crops such as rice, beans, sorghum, and millet grown in the area.
