Kaita

Kaita local government area is in Katsina state, Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has an international border with theNiger Republic. Towns and villages that make up Kaita LGA include Dtsen Safe, Yanhoho, Girka, Dankama, Yandaki, and Kaita. The estimated population of Kaita LGA is put at 173,407 inhabitants with the area majorly populated by members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in the area while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the LGA.

GEOGRAPHY OF KAITA

Kaita LGA occupies a total area of 925 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the total precipitation in the LGA put at an estimate of 960 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF KAITA

Trade is a key economic activity in Kaita LGA with the area hosting a number of markets which include the Dankama international border market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold by the area’s inhabitants. The area is also a hub for the rearing and sales of a number of animals such as camels and horses. Other important economic activities undertaken by the people of Kaita LGA include hunting, crafts making and pottery.
