Kankara local government area is situated in Katsina state, North-west Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Kankara. A number of towns and villages make up Kankara LGA and these include Danmarke, Samyar Jino, Mashiyi, Kankara, kafi, Jino, and Mabai. The estimated population of Kankara LGA is 177,890 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are widely spoken in the area while the religion of Islam is commonly practiced in the LGA.
Kankara LGA covers a total area of 1,462 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average wind speed in Kankara LGA is estimated at 9 km/ h while total rainfall in the area is at 850 mm per annum.
A number of mining industries are found in Kankara LGA due to the area’s rich mineral deposits which include Kaolin. Trade also flourishes in Kankara LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the Mashin market where a number of commodities are bought and sold. Kankara LGA is also a hub for the rearing and sales of a number of domestic animals such as cows, rams, camels, and horses.
