Goronyo local government area is in Sokoto state, Northwest geopolitical division of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Goronyo. The LGA comprises of several towns and villages which include Takakume, Yarimawa, Giyawa, Boyakai, Birjingo, Danasakko, Goronyo, and Shinaka. The estimated population of Goronyo LGA is 149,255 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa and Fufulde languages are spoken in the area while Islam is the extensively practiced religion in the LGA. Notable landmarks in Goronyo LGA include the Goronyo Dam and the Goronyo Sugar factory.
Goronyo LGA covers a total area of 1,704 square kilometres and lies on the Sokoto River. The average temperature of the area is 35 degrees centigrade while the average humidity level of the LGA is put at 31 percent.
A number of crops such as rice, onions, sugarcane and millet are grown in Goronyo LGA. The area hosts a large rice mill in Goronyo town. Also, a number of animals such as donkeys, goats and cows are reared in Goronyo LGA. Trade also blossoms in the area with the LGA hosting several markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic engagements undertaken by the inhabitants of Goronyo LGA include fishing, hunting, and pottery.
