Silame local government area is situated in Sokoto state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Silame with the LGA comprising of a number of towns and villages such as Gande, Marafa, Maji, Labani, Katami, Kubodu, and Silame. The current estimated population of Silame LGA is put at 247,412 inhabitants with the area mostly inhabited by members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area.
Silame LGA occupies a total area of 790 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The LGA falls within the Sudan Savannah vegetative zone and has the popular Sokoto River flowing through its territory.
Farming is a major occupation of the people of Silame LGA with crops such as pepper, sorghum, beans, watermelon, onions, and guineacorn grown in substantially large quantities within the area. Trade also boomsin the LGA with the area hosting several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities in Silame LGA include hunting, wood carving, and leatherworks.
